Full Professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais – UFMG (Belo Horizonte/ MG, Brazil), Department of Chemistry. His current research interests include applications and development of new ambient ionization techniques, mainly paper spray ionization, to be applied in forensic issues, characterization of by-products arising from the induced degradation of persistent organic pollutants in aqueous medium, development of simple and fast protocols to quality control and detection of adulterations in beverages and foods, such as cachaça, whisky, olive oil, beer, among others. He has also working with metabolomics of vegetables by the attainment of images of vegetable tissues by employing DESI-MS imaging. He is the author or co-author of over 130 research articles, 3 book chapters and 5 patents. He is member of the advisory board of the Brazilian Mass Spectrometry Society (BrMASS).
